New York City Council passes major zero waste package

πŸ—½ The New York City Council passed a major zero waste package, including a mandatory organics program.

🌿 The package consists of five bills that aim to increase organics diversion, establish zero waste targets, and expand recycling access.

πŸ“… The bills are expected to become law, and they received high levels of support from the council.

♻️ The bills require the city's Department of Sanitation to offer citywide residential curbside organics collection by October 2024, establish drop-off recycling centers and community recycling events, and create organic waste drop-off sites.

🌍 The bills also establish a goal to divert 100% of recyclable waste from landfills or incinerators by 2030, along with regular reporting on the goal's feasibility.

πŸ’° The fiscal impact statements estimate that most of the package's requirements can be covered using existing resources, except for the recycling centers, which would require additional funding.

πŸŒ† The mandatory organics recycling bill could affect the city's plans to expand a voluntary program, and there are ongoing debates about the cost, education, and processing capacity related to the organics expansion.

🌱 Environmental groups argue that mandatory organics programs can reduce disposal costs and have a positive impact on global warming emissions.

πŸ’š Crystal deodorant is a sustainable, roll-on, zero waste product made of alum and potassium crystals. I have been using this one for over a year now, and I still have a couple of months left.

πŸ’§ It creates a salt barrier under the arms to prevent bacteria growth and body odor while allowing natural perspiration.

🌿 The deodorant is hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive.

πŸ‡ It is not tested on animals and does not contain any animal ingredients or aluminum.

🌱 The packaging is made entirely of cork, a renewable and sustainable resource.

♻️ The deodorant stick can be composted at the end of its lifecycle.

πŸ› It is recommended to wet the stone and apply it under the arms, preferably after showering when the skin is damp.
