Removing Microplastic
You are probably aware of the microplastic problem that we face in our world today. They are everywhere.
Microplastics are being released into the environment through various means such as tire wear from cars and washing synthetic clothes in machines.
Microplastics could be potentially dangerous to humans as they could accumulate in our bodies when we consume affected fish or seafood linked to health risks like cancer.
Have you heard of Fionn Ferreiro? He's a young inventor who discovered a method to collect microplastics from water at the age of only 18.
Key points:
π Fionn Ferreira, won a $50,000 educational scholarship at the Google Science Fair for his project on microplastic pollution.
π§ͺ Ferreira's experiment at home removed about 87% of microplastics from water using a magnetic liquid, or ferrofluid.
π₯ΌThe next challenge involves bringing the project to scale and finding practical applications.

Pela
While I have always used my phone without a case, I recognize the benefits of having one, as it can significantly extend the life of your phone, particularly if you are prone to dropping it.
Although I have had a cracked screen in the past, I choose not to use a case on my Pixel 5 because I prefer its design.
Regardless, Pela might already be a name you're familiar with. If not, well, now you are! π
Key points:
π Pela cases are the world's first truly sustainable phone cases, which are also compostable.
πΎ The cases are made from flax shive and a plant-based biopolymer.
π If the screen cracks while wearing a Pela Case and their liquid screen protector, they cover the repair costs.
π Pela donates a % of every sale to Ocean Cleanup and Preservation Initiatives.
Curious to see if they have a phone case for your model.

Wyve Surfboard
A scientific approach to reinvent the surfboard!
When participating in surfing and other water sports, it's common to use materials that are not environmentally friendly. A majority of surfboards are made from fiberglass and epoxy resin.
They also do not age well when exposed to sunlight and saltwater.
These two gentlemen from France decided to challenge this approach and came up with Wyve a 3D printed surfboard.
πββοΈ Their boards are individually created based on user's body metrics and preferences.
πͺ WYVE's boards are 3x more impact-resistant due to the density of the printed core.
π¨ Customization is available, including a transparent design and a wide range of colors.
Key points:
The use of 3D printing allows for optimization in flexibility, torsion, and vibration damping.
70% bio-based material used in the board. The entire core is made from sugarcane bioplastic.
The resin is 50% biobased.
The received the sustainable surfβs gold standard label because of this.
Wyve board emits 40% less greenhouse gases during manufacture than a traditional polyurethane board of the same dimensions.
It excites me to see how innovative humans are and come on these surfboards look super cool.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner
You might be thinking that I have been stuck in the toilet since the last newsletter, but you would be surprised by how much time we spend in the bathroom and how many unnecessary plastic items we can replace with more eco-friendly options.
Introducing the Redecker Wooden Toilet Brush.
The typical plastic one is just like a big toothbrush and will never leave this planet unless it is made from natural materials such as this one. Sure it costs 38.99 but it looks sooo much better and you are doing your part for the environment.

Singular Green
π Green Shades is a unique worldwide system that allows for the installation of vegetation-covered awnings or structures.
π‘οΈ These structures function as 'vegetative air conditioners', significantly cooling urban areas.
π Optimized plant species within the system help improve air quality by absorbing NOX and CO2.
π’ The system is particularly beneficial for commercial streets and historic districts with limited space for traditional vegetation.
π§ The hydroponic system includes water supply, power point, sails with substrate, irrigation, and a seeding process.
ποΈ This contributes to creating unique urban spaces, reducing environmental pollution, and regulating temperature and humidity.
π SingularGreen offers custom design, technical advisory services, and a 10-year system guarantee.
