Good Eco News

Indonesia plans to convert half a million acres of palm plantations back into forests.

Indonesia is set to convert half a million acres of palm plantations back into forests, in a joint operation by the internal security and environmental ministries. To rectify ecological damage inflicted by the palm oil boom, a task force has been assigned to expel illegal plantations on protected land.

Strict deadlines and legal consequences for non-compliance have been imposed. The government also encourages the restitution of protected forests and aids in climate change mitigation.

As a biodiverse nation, Indonesia's initiative towards maintaining its rich ecosystems, along with a moratorium on new oil palm plantations, heralds a new era in forest conservation.

Key Points:

  • 🌍 Around 200,000 hectares of land are expected to be reclaimed

  • 🚫 Previous restrictions on new oil palm plantations have resulted in rising rates of forest survival.

Grow your own tomatoes

Tired of store bought tomatoes that taste like nothing?

To grow tomatoes from seed, buy a nice tomatoe from your farmersmarket and take out some seeds to dry on a papertowel.

Then, choose a good quality seed starting mix and moisten it. Then, plant two tomato seeds in each container, about three times deeper than the size of the seed.

(Not like in the picture, I used an AI to create that image.) 😀

Place the containers in a warm place with temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit for fastest germination. After planting the tomato seeds, wait for them to germinate, which should take about one to two weeks.

Once the seedlings emerge, ensure they receive enough light and water, and transplant them into larger containers as soon as you see roots growing through the bottoms of the containers. When the seedlings are ready, transplant them into your garden.

Emjoy your free home grown tomatoes.

Zero Waste Swap

Swap from plastic lined paper cups to reusable coffee mugs

Coffee lovers may not realize that the mug they use can leach harmful chemicals into their favorite drink.

To enhance your coffee experience, opt for a non-toxic mug. These mugs not only minimize exposure to harmful substances but also contribute to reducing plastic waste and promoting eco-friendly practices.

Notable options include the reusable KeepCup, made from recycled plastic, tempered glass, or stainless steel, and the borosil glass-made Joco Glass. Make sure your chosen mug is safe and easy to clean, bringing both health benefits and environmental positivity.
